This past Saturday Rocky Mountains National Tournament, dubbed, Rumble in Reno, took place at the Peppermill and featured nationally ranked youth wrestlers from around the nation. Among some of the states represented at the tournament were Arizona, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, South Dakota, Wisconsin and non other that Susanville’s LWA youth wrestling team. And boy did Lassen show up! LWA took 19 wrestlers to the tournament and 10 of the wrestlers placed 5th or better!! In the Rookie division, Braden Witchell, and Michael Regino both FIRST YEAR WRESTLERS, placed at the top. Braden took home a second place medal and Michael took third!  In the 57lb class Hailey Montgomery showed that some girls are made of more than just sugar and spice and took 5th in the Rookie division! And rounding out the rookies, a name you might have heard of from his performance at Battle Mountain, Jack Heimbigner at 66lbs took 5th as well.  In the advanced division, Zayn Wright wrestled his way to the top of the pack and pulled off an astounding 2nd place finish and earned a trophy bigger than him! His cousin Jack Wright showed up and took home a third place trophy in the 74lb weight class. In the 10 and under 89lb class, Dustin Regino earned a 3rd place trophy for his mantel. In the 98lb, 12 and under division, Titus Christensen pulled off a 4th place finish. At this level of competition, it is a bracketed double elimination tournament and many call it a day early. Not LWA’s 6 and under 49 pounders Dathen Moore and Samuel Blue, these two found themselves in the consulation bracket early in the day, and wrestled their way back to have an opportunity to wrestle each other for the third place trophy! After a three round battle, Dathen Moore came out on top getting third and Samuel Blue fourth overall! Great job to all Lassen Wrestling Association wrestlers. This next Sunday, LWA will travel to the 2 day Iron Man Tournament at Spanish Springs High School.
