Why We Love This Place Wednesdays: The Couso Family and SusanvilleStuff

By Terra Avilla

The Cousos and SusanvilleStuff. The best thing about not getting paid to write these articles – I can write about WHATEVER I WANT and Jeremy pretty much lets me. I know that when they (Jeremy and Marshel) get this week’s article, they are going to go “Really Terra? Really?!,” but I’m kinda my own boss when it comes to this so… you have to publish it Jeremy and Marshel. You. Have. To.

If you are reading this, that means you are obviously familiar with the wonder that is SusanvilleStuff.com. How awesome is it that we have this great news source that captures the heart of ‘Everything Susanville’?

I am instantly connected to community events with a click of a button. The website has over 10,000 followers. 10,000! This means that people not in Susanville (like my family for instance) can still see all the wonderful things going on in this town.

The photo galleries of events beautifully portray the essence of our community. Jeremy and Marshel have captured several pictures of my family that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I know I am not alone in this sentiment. The Cousos spend all of their time trying… and I mean really whole-heartedly trying to unify our community. I don’t know anyone else who can say they are as effective at that mission as the Cousos.

Through their site, we, as community leaders, businesses, event coordinators, parents, concerned citizens, etc. can all have up to date, instant access to what is happening around us. A wild fire breaks out – Jeremy and Marshel are on it. Power outage? I instantly check their site for information.

But they are so much more than just a news site. They are the storytellers of our community. Through their work, they paint a picture of our wonderful town and all it has to offer. If you think “there is nothing to do” in Susanville, just take a look at their website and you will be overwhelmed by all that is going on. Moreover, if they are writing about it, it means they are there at those events, getting the information and taking pictures. Every. Day. Of. The Week.

They are entrepreneurs, and humanitarians and skilled journalists, and wonderful human beings. I could write a fifty page essay on all the other wonderful, selfless things they do for our community, like the upcoming Easter Egg Hunt (just so you all know they don’t get paid any money to put this on – they do it because they want it to happen for our communities’ kids).

The two also serve on several community boards, as well as advocate for all upcoming events.

Jeremy and Marshel attended, promoted and photographed the very first Holiday with a Hero, ensuring public support and the future success of this event, and for that I will be forever grateful.

They do this for all community events; Walk-A-Mile, the Fishing Derby, the Lassen County Fair, wine walks, all of the parades and so many more. If there are photos of it – then that means this two-man team went out of their way to be there.

They are two of my favorite people, and two people who are at the heart of everything good in our community. I know for a fact that their work brings us together. Together we are better, and we are better because of Jeremy and Marshel. They are two of the reasons I am able to read about and follow all the reasons why I love this place.

[Editors note: Thanks Terra!]
