Why We Love This Place Wednesdays: Lassen County Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Heffley

By Terra Avilla

If you’re like me, I know you could use some good news today. And that positivity looks like an entire article written about one of the most positive people I know, Deputy Tim Heffley.

Anyone who has lived in our community for any amount of time has, more likely than not, met ‘Hef.’ His easy going personality, sense of humor and contagious smile naturally draw people around him.

Tim has been in law enforcement serving the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department for well over a decade and has become a staple in the Westwood community where he lives and works.

I understand that as part of my profession, not everyone will like me, simply because of the uniform I wear, however, I have never met anyone who has encountered Deputy Heffley say anything negative about him – ever. In fact, I bet that if the people who he arrested ran a Yelp site about him, they would still give him five stars, because he is that likable.

Heffley is always willing to help, whether that be within his community or helping out his fellow deputies.

Deputy Heffley has been instrumental in helping the Holiday with A Hero program as he is a major pipeline into his community, and he goes out of his way to ensure the little kids in the outlying communities are well represented in our event.

He follows through, going out of his way to get current contact information from the parents and guardians so that the children in his community that need help can get it.

Last year Deputy Heffley began serving as a School Resource Officer for Westwood, and as former and current SRO, I can tell you that while Deputy Hefley is an awesome patrol deputy, he definitely is an asset to his community as an SRO.

Deputy Heffley is exactly who I would want my child to be around as a role model and to protect them while they are at school.

After the COVID-19 shutdown, Deputy Heffley spent the remainder of last school year delivering food and supplies to different areas of our county, to make sure that everyone was included.

His temperament and just overall good nature makes him just a delight to be around. Last week during fire evacuations, I was lucky enough to steal some of his time, and I joked that I would write about him. He blushed and told me that I better not dare, because when you are as kind and genuine as Heffley, you don’t want attention, even when you really truly deserve it for all that you do.

So, don’t be mad at me, Hef, I just see what you do for our community and your family.

It’s good people like Tim who wear a badge and a uniform that create the positivity within their communities that law enforcement so desperately needs right now.

He is always going to be, not only one of my favorite deputies, but one of the reasons I love the place we live.
