Why We Love This Place Wednesdays: Erik Skeans and Stonehouse Eatery

Erik Skeans of Stonehouse Eatery

By Terra Avilla

If anyone ever wants to hire me to eat your food and tell you if it’s delicious or not, I am happy to oblige. I love food. I have always loved food and I will always love food. That’s why I love Stonehouse Eatery so much. It is good food. I almost love the food as much as I love the owner, Erik Skeans.

There is something about dining at and supporting a local restaurant that is just so very satisfying. Erik is a retired Correctional Officer and makes sure he goes out of his way to support our community.

Whether it be through offering insanely early hours to accommodate first watch officers at the prison or offering donations to local organizations, Erik works hard to give to Lassen County.

I will always love Stonehouse Eatery for their breakfast burritos. Working the graveyard shift, I would patiently wait until 4:30a.m., until I saw the beautiful glow of his LED sign telling me his restaurant was “open.” On cold winter nights, that warm delicious breakfast literally helped motivate me to stay awake.

The food is all-fantastic and the staff will always modify any item to fit your needs. Their portions are huge, and you can tell that everything is cooked fresh in the restaurant.

News Flash people – they now have hamburgers! Juicy, delicious hamburgers, with meat purchased locally. If you do not try one immediately, you are missing out.

By supporting Eric and his staff, you are supporting our community. One of the biggest complaints I hear about Susanville is that there is “nowhere to eat out.” Um, guys and gals, the menu is overwhelming, with options and for the quality and the amount of food you get, the prices are more than fair.

Erik and his staff know your name and, if you frequent there regularly, they will know your order.

With all this typing about his delicious food, naturally halfway through writing this article, I had to stop to go eat lunch there. As always Eric greets us with a huge smile at the door and begins telling us about his wonderful new creation, some sort of majestic tasting chili fries.

He was so excited for my partners and I to try them, and they did not disappoint.

More impressive than his zeal to deliver delicious food, I overheard Erik talk to the all of the patrons in the restaurant as he popped in and out from behind the counter. He knew all of us. All of us except two people who asked for directions. Erik with the most sincere tone, gave them directions and then spent another minute suggesting other places for them to go and gave them directions to those destinations as well.

Last time I was in Reno, I told the manager of the fast food chain that they were out of napkins and I all I got was a dirty look.

I know for certain those two people, whoever they are, when they come to Susanville they will surely stop in to see Erik again. The epitome of small town charm and high quality service.

I cannot count the times Erik has called the PD saying he as coffee or food for first responders – just because. Erik never stops giving so I urge all of you to stop in (yes even with the road construction) and see Erik and his friendly staff.

Try a sample of whatever yummy concoction he has made, support a local business and get some great grub in your belly.

Stonehouse Eatery and Erik are definitely one of the reasons I love the place we live.
