A Westwood woman received minor injuries Monday after she fell from a moving SUV and was nearly struck by a second vehicle.

According to details provided by the Susanville Office of the California Highway Patrol, shortly after 4:00p.m., 44-year old Westwood resident Justin Stevens was driving a 2006 Toyota Sequoia northbound on Ash Street, south of 6th Street in Westwood.

A 34-year old woman, identified by CHP as Westwood resident Krystal Malena, was standing on the outside driver-side step of the Toyota, holding on with her hands near the driver’s door next to Stevens.

At the same time, 46-year old Brian Maldonado of Westwood was driving a 1997 Ford pickup northbound on Ash Street, following Stevens.

Stevens turned left to perform a U-turn and Maldonado turned to the left to avoid colliding with the rear of the Toyota.

The front passenger side of the Ford collided with the front driver side of the Toyota. Malena narrowly missed being struck by the Ford and was ejected and collided with the roadway.

According to the CHP drugs and/or alcohol are not considered a factor in this collision.
