Weather Corner: September Storms Boost Moisture Totals

Dr. Owen Bateson, Susanville’s resident meteorological expert, checks in with good news this morning.

“Although I would like to see more rain, we have done very well since July first, the beginning of the rainfall year,”  says Bateson, “The average amount of rainfall in September is a dismal .19 inches, but this September we have had 1.21 inches mainly due to the Early September storms.”

According to Dr. Bateson in September we saw 281% of average rainfall for the month. That brings us to 3.47 “ for the year.

Most of that moisture, he explains, came in the downpour of 2 inches in one hour in July.

The total percent of average so far this year comes to 428%.
