Weather Corner: Dismal Moisture Totals After Dry October

Dr. Owen Bateson, Susanville’s resident meteorological expert, checks in with the rainfall totals from October; a dismal .34 inches of rain fell for only 23% of average.

“That brings us to 3.47 inches since July 1st, for an average of 168% for the year,” explains Bateson, “But most of that fell during a thunderstorm in July and that has dropped from 428% of average at the end of September to 168% in just one month.”

Bateson also points out that we received no precipitation during the first half of November.

Dr. Bateson traveled to Eagle Lake last week to measure the lake level at 4093.44  feet, down 5.75 inches just since September 2nd, the lowest measurement since 1951.
