Video: Brief ‘Virtual’ Ceremony Honors Children Who Have Been Lost to Violence

As part of Child Abuse Prevention Month, a virtual flag raising was held Friday morning to honor children across the country, and close to home, who were lost to violence.

The short ‘Children’s Memorial Day’ ceremony included presentations by Director of Lassen County Community Social Services Jenna Aguilera, Lassen County Sheriff Dean Growdon, Krystle Hollandsworth from the Mikailia Child Advocacy Center and Lassen County District Attorney Melyssah Rios.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and social-distancing requirements there was no audience at the flag raising.

Organizers of the event ask that as you watch the ceremony here virtually you wear the color blue in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month and post pictures to your social media accounts with the hashtag #WearBlue4Kids.

During the COVID-19 crisis it becomes especially important that all adults need to report child abuse. Reporting abuse and neglect is everyone’s responsibility.
