A 39-year Sacramento man is in custody tonight after he allegedly robbed the U.S. Bank branch in uptown Susanville, then led law enforcement officers on a wild pursuit that reached speeds of more than 100 mph and crossed into Nevada before finally ending just south of Reno.

Shortly before 6:00 this evening officers from the Susanville Police Department responded to the bank on Main Street after receiving a report that it had been held up.

According to Susanville Police Media Relations Representative Victoria Estrada, the bank teller complied with the robber’s demand and handed him an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then managed to get away before police were called.

Almost immediately Lassen County Dispatch notified local law enforcement to be on the lookout for the suspect’s white Ford Truck, described as a utility type vehicle.

An officer identified the truck in the Walmart parking lot and attempted to make a traffic stop. The suspect fled, leaving town on Highway 36 headed east.

As the chase left the city limits and reached Highway 395 near Johnstonville, officers from the California Highway Patrol and deputies from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit.

CHP took the lead position as the chase continued, with the Susanville City Police Officer and Sheriff’s Deputies engaged as well.

As the suspect reached the Red Rock area on Highway 395 law enforcement deployed a spike strip which shredded the vehicle’s tires, but the driver was still able to maintain speeds over 60 mph.

Nevada Highway Patrol and Washoe County Sheriff’s Department were notified as the pursuit headed towards Reno, where according to news reports, several minor accidents were caused by suspect as he desperately attempted to evade police in the city.

As the truck finally gave out south of Reno the suspect tried to flee from officers on foot, but was quickly apprehended.

He was was identified by the Susanville Police Department as 39-year old Sacramento resident Noah David Bodwell.

“We would like to thank California Highway Patrol, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Lassen County Dispatch, Nevada Highway Patrol and Washoe County Sheriff Department for their assistance in this matter,” said Estrada.
