Update: COVID Recovery Team Puts Hold on Organized Activities and Sports

Monday, July 13th, 2020

The Lassen County Department of Public Health is reporting 19 active cases of COVID-19 in the county as of 5:35p.m. Sunday, noting that, “active cases have been reduced due to inconclusive test results by another institution. Public Health is investigating the situation.”

As of 3:45p.m. on Sunday the CDCR was reporting a total of 127 inmates with active COVID-19 cases at the California Correctional Center. 121 of those infections are reported as being ‘new in the last 14 days.’ At High Desert State Prison CDCR is reporting 4 active cases with no new infections in the last 14 days.

CCC is reporting 8 staff members with active COVID-19 infections. High Desert is reporting 13.

Organized Activities and Sports

According to the Public Health Department most organized activities and sports such as baseball, soccer and football that are held of parks, fields, open areas and courts are not permitted to the extent that they require coaches and athletes who are not from the same household or living unit to be in close proximity, which increase their potential for exposure to COVID-19. Members of the same household may engage in such activities and sports together.

On Friday the agency made an announcement that, “Based on the above guidance the Lassen County Recovery Team has determined that organized sports are no longer allowable and as such must stop practicing and/or competing in Lassen County on private or public spaces.”

LCPH also announced that all public events and concentrated gatherings at campgrounds, RV parks including bonfires, group performances or events must be cancelled or postponed.
