Trail Enthusiasts Asked to Share Trailhead Ideas for Lake Almanor and Westwood

Tuesday, July 9th, 2019

The Almanor Recreation and Park District and Mountain Meadows Conservancy invite trail enthusiasts to participate in the design of proposed new trailheads within the Lake Almanor Basin and Westwood Regional Trails System.

The National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance team will be in Westwood and Chester on July 19th and 20th to assist our communities in developing site designs for several proposed trailheads described in the draft Conceptual Trails Plan.

Mark your calendar for an Open House to meet the National Park Service’s team and to review proposed trailhead designs on Saturday afternoon, July 20th, at the Almanor Recreation Center, 104 Meadowbrook Loop, at Lake Almanor from 1:00 until 2:00.

New trailheads are proposed at Indian Ole Dam, south of Westwood, and at the recently acquired Westwood Gateway property off Delwood Street. This includes a canoe/kayak launch site to Mountain Meadows Reservoir. In Chester, public trailheads are proposed along the Almanor Rail Trail and along First Avenue on both sides of the Diversion Channel.

“Community input is important for the development of new trail segments and trailheads within our communities and in our region,” said Carlos Espana with ARPD.

“Please take a moment to complete a short, 10-minute trail survey at https://surveyhero.com/c/f68298b7 by Thursday, August 1st. Together, we can design a system of interconnected trails that will pass through two counties and offer numerous opportunities for exercise, good health and lots of fun!”

The Almanor Recreation and Park District and Mountain Meadows Conservancy are actively working to grow recreation and trail opportunities in the Lake Almanor Basin and the Westwood area.
