The Show That Almost Was: Our SusanvilleStuff Best of Broadway Rehearsal Video

A SusanvilleStuff Video Feature
by Marshel and Jeremy Couso

Fate is an odd thing. When the 200+ members of Susanville’s Best of Broadway production started working toward their March performances way back in November, no one could have possibly predicted that a global pandemic might force a cancellation.

Heck even a week before, as the show started final dress rehearsals, there was no real question about whether or not the performances would continue. Alas, with COVID-19 moving so swiftly, the cast and crew were forced to abandon their season. And to have it get called off at the very last minute, almost as the cast was getting ready to take the stage for their first performance, makes it all the more painful for everybody who was involved with putting on the show.

On March 7th, Marshel and I were at the annual Best of Broadway ‘media night’ taking pictures and capturing video and we decided to get the entire night’s show on tape. Little did we know that would be all anyone would see of the performances.

It’s a little rough in places, (it’s rehearsal after all) but there are some amazing performances and you get a great feel for how the show would have looked if we all could have gone to the Veterans Hall to see it.

Mainly you get a chance to see the hard work and dedication that these performers put in to entertain us. We wanted you to see what we saw… a very cool show full of talented people.

There are two songs missing from the night for technical reasons, but the rest of the show is there for you watch.

One other thing… the Best of Broadway organization is pretty phenomenal. They are Lassen County’s largest performing arts group and an outlet for literally hundreds of local performers. This seven-performance series in March is how they pay for their operating costs and their yearly expenses. All of that is now suddenly gone and it leaves Best of Broadway in a tough spot.

If you watch the video and you feel entertained send the Best of Broadway folks a donation! You can send a check to P.O. Box 685, Susanville, CA 96130.

Best of Broadway will also be offering ticket refunds on Monday, March 23rd between 5:30 and 7:30p.m. at the Veterans Hall. Perhaps if you enjoyed this video and the cast’s hard work you might consider just donating the tickets without a refund.

If you have trouble watching this here you can try watching it over at YouTube.
