Last week, Lassen High School lived through a week of 2020 again with their second half of Homecoming. Spirit days took on themes of Pandemic PJs, First Responder, White Out, Red/White/Blue, and Outer Banks v. Tiger King to celebrate some of the more positive aspects of being quarantined.

Throughout the week, fun activities were planned for students, including taping Assistant Principal Blackburn to the side of the gym, writing thank you notes to first responders, and donuts in the gazebo.

The freshmen and junior class officers also served root beer floats to their classmates.

Each class nominated royalty and they were introduced at Friday’s assembly. The freshmen class chose Aubrey Yerington and Nash Osborn as their princess and prince. Aubrey enjoyed relaxing during the pandemic while Nash says skateboarding with his older brothers was his favorite activity.

Princess Kaitlin Johnson and Prince Branson Glover represented the sophomore class. Kaitlin’s favorite show to binge watch was Outer Banks and Branson likes All American.

The junior class nominated Princess Emma West and prince Zak Schall. Emma said the first thing she wants to do when everything opens up is go to concerts and travel, Zak just wants to get on with life without a mask.

The first senior princess and prince are Haley Strasburg and Bobby Robles. Haley’s favorite song to come out during Covid is “Life is Good” by Drake, Bobby prefers “Invincible” by Pop Smoke.

Mila Knezevich and Manuel Torres are the second pair of senior royalty. Mila enjoyed fishing with her dad and brother during quarantine and Manuel hung out with the boys.

Princess Paige Henry and Prince Waylon Miller complete the 2021 court. Paige’s favorite song that came out of Covid is “More than my Hometown” and Waylon says “Breathe Deeper” by Tame Impala is his fave.

Our 2021 Homecoming Queen and King are Abigale Dunn and Zane Osborn. Abigale enjoyed fishing and waterskiing during quarantine, but looks forward to traveling and going out to eat without a mask. Zane’s favorite activities were skating with his little brother and binge-watching Nugent’s Facebook lives. He plans on going to a concert when all of the Covid restrictions are lifted.

Unfortunately the Grizzlies couldn’t pull of a victory against UPrep, falling 17-14 in a close match up.

The week was capped off with a “Homecoming Hoedown” held at the fairgrounds on Saturday, with a DJ, nacho bar, corn hole, and roping. The attendees all enjoyed the evening sponsored by the Sophomore and Junior classes.

Remember when news was ‘newsy’? When you read about weddings, family events and engagement announcements in the newspaper? If you have something that might be newsworthy, please submit it to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to include it here in “The Good Stuff.”
