The 2021 Lassen County 4H Hall of Fame Inductees: Susan Harwell

This week on SusanvilleStuff, in celebration of National 4H Week, we will be featuring the five inaugural inductees into the Lassen County 4H Hall of Fame.

Interview completed by Lily Ammon and Maddi Johnson

Susan Harwell was a 4-H Leader for twenty-seven years. She spent her first two years in Dry Creek and then moved to Lassen County in 1993. Susan was a leader at Lake 4-H for one year and then moved to Standish 4-H Club. She retired and left the area in 2016. She missed 4-H so much she joined a 4-H Club in Corning, CA.

She didn’t know there was such a program as 4-H when she was young until she moved. She led the following projects: dog, beef, speech, drama, knitting, and sewing. Susan served as the Standish 4-H Community Leader, Vice President of the Lassen County 4-H Council, All-Star Advisor and ran several Achievement Nights (a yearly award dinner/program for 4-H).

Susan’s most fond memory of 4-H is watching all the members graduate through the program and receive scholarships. It was a great joy to know the kids and all their personal achievements through the years. Susan believes that 4-H gives kids a sense of belonging and achievement.

If she would do it all over again, she would! She has many connections with kids, and she has enjoyed their journey of growth through 4-H and into life!

Welcome to the Lassen County 4-H Hall of Fame Ms. Harwell! We are so honored to have you!
