Tasty Fun for a Good Cause! 3rd Annual Barbecue Cook-Off Set for August 19th

Lassen Senior Services will hold its 3rd annual fundraising barbecue, this year for the first time an officially sanctioned Kansas City Barbeque Society event, Saturday, August 19th at the Lassen County Fairgrounds. The barbecue gives people a chance to taste some great grilled faire while supporting the non-profit’s mission to provide programs and services that enhance the health and well-being of the senior citizens here in Lassen County.

The cook-off will feature slow-cooked and smoked meats in four categories; chicken, ribs, pork and brisket, with more than $8,000 in prize money on the line as expert judges pick the tastiest meat.

Along with some great cooking you can also enjoy live entertainment and the fairgrounds will be filled with vendors and their unique crafts.

By the time the gates open at 11:00 on Saturday morning the hard working grill masters will have been already slow-cooking their meat for twelve to sixteen hours.

Diamond Mountain Casino will be selling beer and wine and Lassen Ale Works will be selling beer from 11:00 until 4:00 at the fairgrounds, and Extreme Events is going to be setting up their bounce houses and water slides. It costs $5 to play on the bounce houses for the day. Extreme Events will also be selling snow cones, kettle korn and cotton candy.

As if all of that excitement wasn’t enough, there will also be a car show n’ shine to wander though!

According to Artz, vendors at the cook-off will include Marette Wakeman, who will be selling bath products and candles; Linda’s Heartwarmers, Western Inspirations, JMO Originals and Karen Rabelos handcrafted jewelry. Also featured will be Treasure Hunter’s handmade necklaces, bracelets, head bands and kids toys, Gery and Sherry’s Creations, Mart’s Starts, Scentsy and Aunt Deedee’s Doodads.

People’s Choice Award

Your $10 admission gets you the opportunity to vote for People’s Choice and to taste some great barbecue samples.

According to Lassen Senior Services’ Executive Director Penny Artz there will be 15 teams competing for Team of the Year, an honor which brings with it the opportunity to compete for the KCBS National Championship.

While several teams will be selling their meat and side creations, some teams are here for competition only.

The awards ceremony will be between 4:00 and 5:00p.m. Trophies have been created by J&K Guns and James Moore.
