Susanville Man Arrested After Brandishing Imitation Firearm During Altercation

A Susanville man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly pushed an elderly woman to the ground and threatened to kill a witness with an imitation firearm during an altercation in the Sierra Shopping Center.

According to details released today by Susanville Chief of Police Kevin Jones, officers responded at around 11:30a.m., for a fight involving a man with a gun at the Sierra Wash and Dry in the downtown shopping center.

When officers arrived, the suspect, whom people identified as having a gun, was inside the AT&T store and according to police, he was carrying a concealed pistol.

An investigation found that the man, 22-year old Susanville resident Anthony Ausmus, had gotten into a verbal altercation with a person at the Wash and Dry.

“When Ausmus was leaving, he pushed an elderly woman to the ground, prompting the witness to confront Ausmus,” explained Chief Jones.

“During this encounter, Ausmus pulled a firearm from inside his clothing and threatened to kill the witness. Ausmus eventually left the scene.”

Officers confirmed the firearm was a B.B. pistol and Ausmus was arrested and booked into the Lassen County Jail for Elder abuse, Battery and brandishing an imitation firearm.

The elderly woman suffered minor injuries in the altercation.

Chief Jones thanked community members who pointed out Ausmus to officers, saying that their help was appreciated.
