Banner Lassen Medical center is hosting a Surgery Open House on March 21st, from 2:00-4:00p.m. The Open House will include a presentation from surgery staff and anesthesia, who will speak to the public about preparing for surgery. The Open house will conclude with a tour of the state of the art operating room.
“Surgery can be stressful and we are hoping to put some of our patients or family member’s minds at ease prior to operation day,” said Kristina Moulton, RN, and Surgery Manager at Banner Lassen Medical Center.
Several Surgeons at Banner Lassen Medical Center have been successfully completing Laparoscopic Surgeries. The advantage of this type of surgery is it leaves minimal scaring and patients frequently experience less recovery time.
Banner Lassen recently did its first hand assisted laparoscopic colon resection, which is different from the traditional large open incision that patients underwent the past. The incision is much smaller still allows for the surgeon to manipulate the bowel, but there is much faster recovery time.
With the successful completion of this procedure, Banner Lassen Medical Center is now equipped to offer patients the most advanced form of laparoscopic procedures. “We are thrilled to be at the forefront of a new kind of surgery that continues to transform the minimally invasive arena, resulting for even better experiences for patients,” said Moulton.
During the surgery Open House this type of surgery among others will be discussed. The staff will also talk about where loved ones can wait and what to expect when taking care of a loved one before and after surgery.
Following the presentation, the staff will lead a guided tour through the operating room. “Once patients and their families see our operating room and meet the staff, it takes away the fear of the unknown,” said Moulton.
