Students Show Off Their Knowledge of the World in County-Wide Geography Bee

A tradition that has lasted for more than thirty years, the Lassen County Geography Bee was held February 27th, at Richmond School, featuring some of our brightest local students showing off their knowledge of United States and world geography.

Fourth and fifth grade competitors were given both oral and written questions about the United States. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students answered questions about the entire world.

Winners received gift certificates for Margie’s Book Nook, sponsored by the Lassen County Office of Education.

“Because the LCOE no longer co-ordinates spelling bee, academic olympics, or geography bee, volunteers put together questions, read questions and keep score,” explains coordinator Julie McKee.

“Believing that geography is important in our world today, and always, the volunteers hope to continue this worthwhile competition for years to come!”
