Snow Removal Reminder from the Police Department

Winter weather is just around the corner, and the Susanville Police Department wants to remind you that it is once again time to prepare for winter snow removal throughout the city.

The City of Susanville currently has an ordinance that becomes effective whenever there is three inches of snow or ice on any part of the roadways in the city. During these conditions, no vehicle may be parked or left unattended on any city street; vehicles may be towed immediately at the owner’s expense.

Also in accordance with the California Vehicle Code, any time a vehicle is left standing on any public street or alley for more than 72 consecutive hours, that vehicle may be towed at the owner’s expense.

Consequently, the Susanville Police Department is requesting the cooperation of citizens to move all travel/utility trailers, boats and recreational vehicles parked on city streets that should be stored for the winter months. As winter begins, please also move any portable basketball hoops away from the roadway/sidewalk as they can interfere with snowplowing equipment.

Private property owners concerned about abandoned vehicles on their own property may tow vehicles in accordance with the guidelines outlined in Section 22658 of the California Vehicle Code. An explanation of this section for property owners is available at the Susanville Police Department.
