Lassen County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a 25-year old Westwood man Saturday after he reportedly attacked two men shoveling snow on Delwood Street with a knife, wounding one man and sending him to Seneca hospital for treatment of his injuries.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, shortly after 5:00p.m. on March 2nd, deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Delwood Street in Westwood for a reported fight that included a knife.

“Based on a description of the suspect provided by dispatch, deputies contacted a shirtless, bald, male walking North on Elm and carrying a shovel,” explained Lassen County Sheriff Dean Growdon in details released Tuesday.

The suspect, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as 25-year old Westwood resident Calvin Kinnee, was detained and questioned and reported that he had been in a fight with two males and that the two males had hit him with the shovel.

At Second and Delwood, the reporting party was contacted and directed deputies to the 100 block of Delwood Street where the victims were located.

“Deputies observed that Victim 1 suffered a laceration approximately 4-inches in length, one-inch wide and one-inch deep on the back side of his left arm in addition to other injuries on his left forearm which appeared to be defensive in nature.”

According to the first victim’s statement, he and the other victim were shoveling snow outside their residence when they saw a brown sedan stop down the street. A male wearing a black mask exited the vehicle and ran at them with a large knife in his right hand. A fight ensued for several minutes before the victims were able to disarm the suspect.

“They then chased him with a shovel to Third Street,” said Growdon. “A black knife with a taped handle and a 7 inch blade was recovered at the scene and booked into evidence at the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office.”

One victim was transported to Seneca hospital to be treated for his injuries.

According to Growdon several eyewitnesses were interviewed and deputies subsequently arrested Calvin Kinnee and charged him with two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon/non firearm.

The suspect was booked into the Lassen County Jail and is being held on $125,000 bail for the felony arrest as well as felony parole violations.
