Science fairs, for some students it can be dreadful  for others it’s a chance to show off their science expertise. At first a science project can seem only like an imaginary threat, but as students progress from grade to grade the threat materializes with a simple phrase uttered by a teacher, “You’re going to complete a science fair project,” and the planning begins.

A science fair project is simply a research project that is entered into a competition called a science fair. Each science fair project comprises of a project, a written report, a display board and a physical presentation given by the student. These projects follow the seven steps of the scientific method and give students the opportunity to explore any science concept that interests them.

Richmond Elementary is hosting Lassen County’s Science Fair on March 18-22, 2013 and is open to all students in Lassen County from preschool through 12th grades.

The event is in great need of volunteer adult judges and judging will take place on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided and judging is typically completed by 1 p.m. If you have an interest in science and enjoy learning, volunteering is a great way to help.

Lassen County Superintendent of Schools Rich DuVarney and the Lassen County Board of Education sponsor the event. In addition to the support of Richmond School Superintendent Vicky Leitaker and the Richmond School Board of Trustees and staff, many community organizations, businesses, and individuals support the Science Fair by contributing prizes for students.
