Sacred Heart Church Celebrates 100 Years

Sacred Heart Parish, established in 1912, is celebrating 100 years of meeting the spiritual needs of the Catholic community in Lassen County and invites you to be part of this momentous occasion. Though this mile-stone will be noted throughout the year, a special weekend is planned for Saturday, June 23rd and Sunday, June 24th.

A dinner-dance, following the 5:00p.m. Mass, will get the weekend underway at Monsignor Moran Hall on Saturday, 6:00p.m. to 10:00p.m. Dinner choices will include Tri-Tip or Pasta for $25 per person and a no-host bar will be available.

The first Sacred Heart Catholic Church at the corner of Nevada and Union streets.

Tickets and limited and there is no sale at the door. Tickets are available at Haws, Theobald and Auman, Beauty Corral, The Mark, Leslie’s Jewelry and El Tepeyac Grille.

The evening event, open to the public, is a fundraiser intended to help with costs associated with centennial events.

Sunday celebration activities will begin with an 11:00a.m. Mass concelebrated by Most Rev. Jaime Soto, Bishop of Sacramento, Rev. Fr. Ambrose Ugwuegbu, Parish Priest, and other Priests from the Diocese.

There will also be a dedication of an historic bell donated by the Ladies of the Sacred Heart, whose chimes were first heard in Susanville, October 27, 1912. Then a special program and luncheon will be held at the hall in the afternoon. All Catholics are encouraged to attend this free event.

Refer to our Website, www.sacredheartsusanville.org for more information on these and other events planned throughout the year.
