Results from the 4th Annual Weiner Dog Races at Eagle Lake

Look everybody it’s Pete! With Theresa Phillips and Officer Mike Hoover
Eagle Lake Resort hosted the 4th Annual Wiener Dog Races on Stones Landing last weekend, raising $3,150 from entry fees, silent auction gift baskets, hotdog bbq and private donors to benefit the Susanville Police Department’s K-9 unit.

“A great big thank you to our community for the amazing support,” said event organizer Andrea Traphagan.

According to Traphagan this year’s goal was to help the police department have enough funds for emergency veterinary care for K-9 Officer Zeke and monthly training for him and his partner Officer Michael Hoover.

“We at Eagle Lake Resort are very excited about this K-9 unit’s capabilities to help take a bite out of local crime and are confident this pair will bring about positive change for the community.”

“We were very impressed with Officer Hoover’s desire to also utilize Zeke in the community with the youth. Officer Zeke not only will be an asset to fighting in a war on drugs in our local area but he will be used to create opportunities for Officer Hoover to interact with Officer Zeke and bridge the divide between some of our area’s youth and law enforcement. Officer Hoover’s desire to create positive situations for communication through demonstrations of Officer Zeke’s skills will no doubt create interest in not only our youth but adults alike!”

Traphagan said that the resort will hold next year’s event to benefit the K-9 unit, and if the city of Susanville decides to get a second K-9 for full round the clock coverage the Weiner Dog Races will dedicate the next 2-years to the Susanville Police Department.

“We feel a great need to support law enforcement’s efforts to keep us safe in our community. This wonderful event lets the smaller German’s in and around our area lend a paw in service while having fun!”

Traphagan thanked Walton’s Colonial Mortuary for sponsoring all of the awards and prizes for the furry contestants.

“Our BBQ was almost completely sponsored and all items were donated by the following; IGA donated all the buns for the bbq; Diamond Mountain Casino donated all water and Idaho Grocery gave us hotdogs. Sunset Properties donated condiments and all paper goods and cutlery. Nancy Weaver made homemade chile and donated it all to our BBQ. Trakker Industries LLC donated all the fixings for Nachos.”

The Weiner Dog races were also sponsored by a host of businesses and private individuals.

“This year we went from 16 dogs to 32 that entered our races and they all had fun running their little hearts out… admittedly not always in the right direction!”

More than 200 people participated in the races, competing, volunteering and spectating at this years event.

“We were grateful for the support to this deserving organization,” said Traphagan. “We’re already planning on next years 5th annual races and hope to see more participants at next years event!”

Eagle Lake Resort and the community of Stones Landing are very thankful for all the community support from Lassen County and Reno Nevada.”
