Fire Department Report: Residential Structure Fire on Third Street

The Susanville Fire Department has released details of a May 4th, residential structure fire on Third Street.

According to the report, at 1:57a.m. Friday morning the Susanville Fire Department along with automatic aid from the Susan River Fire Department and Cal Fire responded to a reported fire at 1306 Third Street.

The first arriving engine was E621 from the Susanville Fire Department. Upon arriving at scene fire fighters reported heavy smoke showing from the rear of the structure and smoke coming from the eves of the residence.

Within a minute of the first engine arriving at scene the structure flashed over and became fully involved with fire pushing out the windows of the structure. Firefighters from E621 made an aggressive exterior attack on the structure.

As other engines arrived on scene fire crews made entry into the structure doing an interior attack and bringing the fire under control at around 3:00a.m.

The fire spread from the living room to the rear of the structure. Damage to the residence, according to the Fire Department, consisted of heavy charing from the floor to the ceiling throughout the structure. The firefighters were able to save some of the occupant’s personal items.

There were 10 fire apparatus and 28 firefighters on scene to battle the blaze and no injuries were reported. The Susanville Fire Department was assisted by personnel and equipment from the Susan River Fire Protection District, Cal Fire, Lassen County OES, Susanville Police Department, LMUD and Red Cross.

The fire was found to be caused by combustible materials stored to close to the heat source.
