Red Flag Warning Issued for Dangerous Fire Conditions This Afternoon

Sunday, July 8th, 2018

The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for eastern Lassen County, Surprise Valley, the western Nevada Sierra Front, the west central Nevada Basin and Range and Northern Washoe County.

The Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 1:00p.m. until 9:00p.m. today, July 8th.

Winds are expected to be out of the southwest from 15 to 20mph with gusts to 35mph.

Humidity will drop to between 5 and 9 percent for 6 to 9 hours.

The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.

Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.

Follow local fire restrictions. Check weather.gov/reno for updates and livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.
