The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office this morning released details of the Saturday afternoon pursuit which ended when the suspect’s vehicle rolled near Sunnyside Road in the Janesville area.
According to Sergeant Kevin Jones, Deputies from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office were in the Leavitt Lake subdivision seeking a person who had been involved in a domestic disturbance in Susanville, reported earlier in the day by the Susanville Police Department.
At around 2:20 a member of the Sheriff’s Office located the individual and attempted to detain him. The person disregarded the Deputy and fled in his vehicle, colliding with a fence in an attempt to evade capture.
The Deputy gave chase to the suspect vehicle while activating his emergency lights and siren, but the suspect failed to yield.
The suspect’s vehicle proceeded west on Highway 395 from Leavitt Lake, reaching speeds in excess of 90 MPH.
In the process of evading Deputies, the suspect forced opposing vehicles off the roadway as it continued on in a reckless manner.
Deputies continued to chase the vehicle as it turned onto Byers Pass Road where, while still being pursued by Deputies, the suspect collided with a parked vehicle on Byers Pass Road.
Even after this collision the suspect continued travelling south on Byers Pass Road, with Sheriff’s Deputies still in pursuit.
Prior to reaching Sunnyside Road the suspect vehicle rolled and landed on its top. The driver, identified as 28 year-old Susanville resident Robert Brummett, did not need medical attention and was arrested at the scene.
According to the Sheriff’s report Brummert was booked into the Lassen County Jail for felony evading of a peace officer and hit and run. Additional charges were added to Brummett by the Susanville Police Department.
The case has been submitted to the District Attorney for prosecution.
