Public Meetings to Discuss Regional Trails Effort Being Held October 23rd and 24th

A consortium of local groups is working to develop a plan for recreational trails in the Lake Almanor Basin. The Almanor Basin Trails Collaborative will be hosting two public open houses in late October to share their vision of a trail network that will connect the communities of Susanville, Westwood, Clear Creek, Hamilton Branch, Canyon Dam, Prattville, Lake Almanor West, Chester, Bailey Creek and the Lake Almanor Country Club.

The Trails Collaborative currently consists of the following organizations: Almanor Recreation and Parks District, Mountain Meadows Conservancy, Feather River Land Trust, Lassen Land and Trails Trust, Caribou Alliance for Trails, Lassen County, the United States Forest Service, Pacific Gas and Electric and the National Park Service along with local citizens.

These groups have been working with staff from the National Park Service Rivers, Conservation and Trails Assistance program to develop the plan.

A public open house will be held in Chester on Tuesday, October 23rd, at the Almanor Recreation Center on Meadowbrook Loop.

The second open house will occur in Westwood on Wednesday, October 24th, at the Westwood Visitors Center located on the corner of Ash and Third Streets.

Both open houses will run from 4-6 PM.

Everyone is invited to come to learn about this regional effort, to look at maps of the proposed trail segments, to provide input on the conceptual trails plan, and to meet with representatives of the Trails Collaborative.
