Ponderosa Fire Update: Friday Midday Report on Conditions

Here is your midday report on conditions from the Ponderosa Fire burning near Manton.

  • Location: Two Miles East of Manton
  • County: Tehama and Shasta Counties
  • Acres: 28,098 Structures Threatened: 940 Fire Engines: 254
  • Containment: 68%
  • Residence Destroyed: 64 Fire Crews: 47
  • Expected Containment: August 27
  • Total Personnel: 2,436
  • Injuries: 4

Current Situation: Containment increased overnight as crews continued to strengthen the fire lines in the Battle Creek and Panther Creek drainages.

The fire remains approximately 2 miles west of A-line road at Highway 36, where contingency lines to the east of the fire are being constructed. Fire continues to burn within the interior of the fire perimeter and crews are working on mitigating hazards in those areas.

The Evacuation Warning is lifted for residents who live adjacent to Highway 36 from Oasis Springs Road to Mineral.

All areas within the fire perimeter are closed to all persons, including residents and property owners.

Evacuation Center: The Red Cross Shelter at Big League Dreams is closed today. No further evacuation center activations are anticipated.

Road Closures: Roads leading South off Highway 44 from Richards Lane to Viola except the following: Long Hay Flat to Fires edge; Rock Creek Road to Bailey Creek;

Forward Road east of Cedar Ridge; Rock Creek Road at Ponderosa Way;

Ponderosa Way at Rock Creek road.

A note for our readers who are LMUD customers – Due to the unstable nature of PG&E’s Caribou transmission line LMUD will be operating off of Honey Lake Power for the duration of the Plumas County Chips Fire. LMUD is asking that all customers conserve energy by unplugging or turning off all non-essential household equipment and appliances.
