Pacific Gas and Electric Company has awarded Lassen County Fire Safe Council $100,000 to fund fuel treatments in the Clear Creek Community in Lassen County. Funds are being used to remove dead, dying and hazard trees that pose a risk to habitable structures and electrical lines within the community.

The project is being implemented in conjunction with a CAL-FIRE California Climate Initiative/Fire Protection Grant which together are funding tree removal around 40+ homes in Clear Creek.

The overall project is focusing on three critical community needs; reducing hazardous fuel loads along the Indian Ole Road corridor, which will provide safer evacuation routes; reducing hazardous fuel loads in power line corridors, which protects critical community infrastructure, and maintaining and expanding fuel breaks that protect the community where it bumps up against wildlands.

Since 2014, according to details provided by the Fire Safe Council, PG&E has provided the group with over $700,000 to protect communities within the Lassen and Shasta County communities of Clear Creek, Little Valley, Day Lassen Bench and Westwood.

Previous PG&E funded Clear Creek work included fuel breaks to the north and east of the community and brush removal along a PG&E transmission line that LCFSC implemented in conjunction with PG&E.

“Once again we are grateful for the tremendous boost PG&E is providing to our efforts to reduce fire risk in local communities,” said Lloyd Keefer, LCFSC Chair. “We are putting these funds to work immediately and the PG&E funded treatments are planned to be completed in the month of October, 2019.”

“The safety of the communities we serve is the top priority for PG&E and we are once again committed to support local wildfire prevention efforts in Lassen and Shasta counties. This collaboration among PG&E, and the Lassen County Fire Safe Council will help the communities we serve prevent and prepare for wildfires,” said Carl Schoenhofer, senior manager of PG&E’s North Valley division.
