Officials Say Unattended Stove Cause of Commercial Fire at Ross Dress For Less

The Susanville Fire Department was dispatched to an early morning commercial structure fire at the Ross Dress For Less store on Main Street Tuesday, arriving to find a fire burning in an attached storage unit.

At around 7:30a.m. on February 26th crews from the Fire Department, along with Cal Fire and the Susan River Fire District, arrived to find moderate smoke coming from the rear of the building in an attached vacant storage unit.

“Quick and aggressive firefighting efforts were performed and the fire was contained and extinguished in the storage unit,” explains Fire Captain Robert Brown Jr.

“Upon investigation, fire department personal found the building was being used by transients. The cause of the fire was determined to be caused by an unattended cooking stove in the room.”

Total equipment committed to the incident included two Chiefs, two engines, one truck, and two units from the Susanville Police Department.
