Robert Eugene Winkler
Robert Eugene Winkler left this world on Aug. 30, 2013 after a short battle with cancer. Bob came into this world on April 24, 1934 in Sterling, Co. Bob was the son of Fred and Clara Winkler, both German immigrants from Russia. Bob graduated from Sterling High School on May 27, 1952 He embarked in a number of different jobs including stints with the railroad and concrete work in Sydney, NE. He entered the Army on March 19, 1954, during the time of the Korean conflict. Upon his discharge in 1956 Bob moved west.
He settled in Lassen county working at the Sierra Army Depot first in ammunitions and later for the Sierra Army Depot Fire Department eventually retiring.
His hobbies included cowboy action shooting and family ancestry research. Bob will be greatly missed by family and friends. Survivors include son Robert and his wife Teri of Doyle, CA, son Timothy and his wife Jennifer of Herlong, CA, grandsons Bill of Fortuna, CA and Sean of Herlong CA, sister Joan Woods and her husband Ernie of Doyle, CA, niece, Dana and her husband Frank of Sparks, NV and nephew Kevin and his wife Marcie of Sparks, NV.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 7, 2013 followed by a celebration of life at Timothy & Jennifer’s house in Herlong. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite animal rescue in Bob’s name.
