NWS Winter Storm Warning in Effect from Now Until Noon Sunday

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Lassen, eastern Plumas and Sierra counties, above 5,500 feet, warning that heavy wet snow and dangerous travel conditions are possible between now and noon on Sunday.

Forecasters warn that the storm could pack a punch, with high intensity snowfall and thundersnow expected Saturday evening as Susanville holds it’s annual Magical Country Christmas.

Heavy, wet snow is expected with total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet above 5,500 feet west of Highway 395. Wind gusts up to 40 to 45 mph are possible for lower elevations especially along the Highway 395 corridor here in Lassen County.

Particularly dangerous travel conditions could occur Saturday late afternoon into Saturday evening.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible, especially over the Sierra passes. Gusty winds and heavy, wet snow could bring down tree branches.

Avoid travel if possible, you could be stuck in your vehicle for many hours. If you must travel, prepare for long delays and carry an emergency kit with extra food, water and clothing. If you stay home, have a backup plan in case of power outages.

The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
