NWS Weather Bulletin: Winter Weather Advisory Tuesday and Wednesday

Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Winter Weather Advisory warning Lassen County residents to expect snow accumulations of up to 6 inches in the mountains surrounding Susanville between Tuesday at 1:00p.m. and Wednesday at 4:00p.m.

The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for elevations above 5,500 feet. Here on the valley floor we will only see rain.

Heavy, wet snow expected for locations above 5,500 feet with total snow accumulations of up to 6-inches west and southwest of Susanville. Peak snowfall rates are expected for Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. Winds will be gusting as high as 50mph Tuesday afternoon before decreasing by sundown.

Plan on hazardous road conditions, especially over Fredonyer Pass, Hwy 44 and Hwy 139 for the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Strong winds could cause tree damage and blowing snow, reducing visibility at times Tuesday evening.

Even light snowfall causes major travel delays, especially during periods of high traffic volume. Be sure to allow extra time to reach your destination. Leave extra space between vehicles since it takes longer to stop on slick roadways.

The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
