NWS Weather Bulletin: Red Flag Warning In Effect Beginning at 2:00p.m.

The prospect of gusty winds and low humidity have prompted forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno to issue a Red Flag Warning for our area.

The warning will be in effect from 2:00 until 9:00pm today for much of eastern California and western Nevada from the US-395 corridor eastward.

Winds are expected to be out of the south at 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 and 40 mph.

The humidity is expected to drop to between 7 and 12% for a period of up to eight hours triggering conditions that can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.

Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.

Follow local fire restrictions. Check weather.gov/reno for updates and livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.
