NWS Weather Bulletin: Incoming Storms to Bring More Heavy Precipitation

Heavy snowfall with a significant impact returns to the Sierra and northeast California tonight through Thursday evening according to the latest update from the National Weather Service’s office in Reno.

Blizzard conditions are expected in the Sierra above 7,000 feet.

Here in the Honey Lake Valley, and other areas below 7,000 feet, heavy rains could produce ponding and minor flood issues tonight.

Rain here in the lower elevations will change to snow before ending Thursday night, with a light accumulation possible near and above 5,000 feet.

A break in the weather is expected Friday and Saturday before a much weaker system moves in for Sunday.

Between now and Friday morning heavy snow expected above 5,000 feet. Accumulations 4 to 10 inches north and east of Susanville including Highway 395, with 10 to 20 inches west and south of Susanville including Highways 36 and 44. Up to 2 inches will be possible below 5,000 feet including Susanville.

On Thursday travel could again be very difficult to impossible with road closures possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commutes. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage.

The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
