NWS Weather Bulletin: Fire Watch in Effect Tonight and Friday

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Fire Weather Watch in effect for our area and the Lake Tahoe basin tonight and Friday. Forecasters expect fast moving thunderstorms with little to no rainfall, dry lightning strikes and gusty outflow winds.

Winds will be out of the southwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Localized gusts up 40 mph in wind prone locations and with the cold frontal
passage.

The humidity will drop to between 15 and 20 percent Friday afternoon.

Lightning can create new fire starts and may combine with strong outflow winds to cause a fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.

Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
