NWS Weather Bulletin: Excessive Heat Warning In Effect Through Tuesday Evening

Forecasters at the National Weather Service’s office in Reno have issued an Excessive Heat Watch for our area, in effect until 9:00p.m. Tuesday.

Dangerously hot conditions are expected each day with afternoon temperatures between 99 and 109 here in the lower valleys, with mid 80s to mid 90s for mountain communities. Morning lows will be in the lower 60s to lower 70s.

Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

Despite a cooling trend with temperatures falling to more typical mid-summer heat for mid to late next week, heat risks for vulnerable groups will remain through next week.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
