NWS Bulletin: Series of Storms Forecast to Impact Us This Week

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a pair of weather bulletins for Lassen and portions of Plumas and Sierra Counties warning residents of a series of storms beginning late this afternoon.

The agency has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 4:00p.m. today until 4:00a.m. Tuesday, and a Winter Storm Watch for a more powerful storm Wednesday evening.

Forecasters expect snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches around Susanville, with 2 to 4 inches for Portola and higher terrain west of Susanville. Winds will gust as high as 50 mph.

Winter Storm Watch for Wednesday Evening
Forecasters say that heavy snow possible with Wednesday’s storm. Look for snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches around Susanville, with 6 to 14 inches near Portola and in the higher terrain west of the Honey Lake Valley. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph.

Travel could be very difficult during these next storms. Strong winds could cause tree damage and power outages.

Now is the time to prepare an emergency kit for your home and car. If traveling consider alternate plans, remember to carry tire chains, extra food, water and clothing. Once the storm arrives, travel may be difficult or impossible for an extended period of time.
