National Weather Service Issues Flood Warning for Hog, Sheep and Walker Fire Burn Areas

Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a Flash Flood Watch for Lassen, eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra Counties this afternoon through late tonight.

The NWS Bulletin warns that a period of heavier rain is expected beginning at around 4:00p.m. on areas burned by the Hog, Sheep and Walker fires.

This will bring an increased risk for flash flooding to the south and west of Susanville as well as along Indian Creek including the Genesee area.

Some areas at risk for flash flooding, according to NWS forecasters, include portions of the Bizz Johnson Trail and near the confluence of Willard Creek and the Susan River, communities near Wingfield Road and Richmond Road south of Susanville and the Beckwourth-Genesee Road.

People in the watch area should be aware of the possibility for heavy rainfall and avoid low lying areas. Be alert for sudden rises in water or mud or debris flows. Do not drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the road. The road may be washed out or the water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely.
