Theresa Phillips, Lassen Municipal Utility District spokesperson, has released details of the system-wide outage that left LMUD customers in the dark Tuesday evening.
“At approximately 8:15p.m., May 16th, LMUD experienced a nearly system-wide outage affecting over 8,000 customers,” explained Phillips.
“The outage was the result of a transmission pole fire on LMUD’s 100 line which runs from the Westwood substation into the Susanville area.”
According to Phillips the fire caused a cross-arm on the pole to break, which resulted in the outage. Crews were able to re-route power and quickly restore most customers within 2-hours, fully restoring power to all but nine customers by 11:05p.m.
Crews are performing repairs to the damaged pole which is located just east of the Fredonyer Pass on Highway 36. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
