George Wingfield’s Meadowbrook Ranch, ca.1910

Wingfield Ranch to be Club Home
October 26, 1924

The Susanville Country Club, which is an outgrowth of the Susanville Golf Club, has voted to buy from the Lassen Lumber and Box Company the Wingfield ranch near Susanville, Cal., ninety miles northwest of Reno, on the company retaining the timber on the property.

The Wingfield ranch has long been one of the show places of Lassen county. Mr. Wingfield spent large sums upon its development and many thousands of dollars for its upkeep during the time he owned it. When the property was purchased by the Lassen Lumber and Box Company it was the timber alone in which the company was interested. The handsome residence, the ranch buildings and show features of the place constituted rather a drain than an asset and the disposal was decided on.

The property is an ideal one for the purpose for which it has been purchased, it is said. The setting are in keeping for a millionaire’s club. Golf links can easily be laid out where “gold bugs’ can chase the elusive pill until their tongues hang out. A residence lot for every member on which a summer home will be built is part of the plan.
