Lassen Workers Receive Awards

Three bureau of land management members of Susanville have been recently awarded citations by Secretary of the Interior J. C. Krug for meritorious service in their work last winter on “Operation Snowbound.”
Logan Morton, ranger manager, Harold Ward, conservationist foreman; and Garner Buzzey, tractor operator, received the honors. Each member will receive an individual citation and silver medal in the near future.
These three men took the department cat out into the winter storm and cleared the road up Antelope Grade to Horse Lake. They opened up the way into F. V. Wood’s ranch, and at the north end of the lake into Fred Hansen’s ranch where family had been snowed in for 14 days with drifts 14 feet deep.
They cleared Ravendale road to the Snow Storm ranch and went on into Ravendale where it meets the highway. They moved up to Surprise Valley and opened up the old main highway from Cedarville to Fort Bidwell, plowing out ranches along the way.
