Construction of the houses in the Milwood District 1946

Concrete Poured for New Houses
November 13, 1946

Foundations were poured this week for the first of the 16 new houses to be built on Fairfield Avenue in the Milwood district, according to Hageman & Hageman, local contractors.

They are to be of wood, with two bedrooms and have been approved by the state for purchase by veterans under the state veterans’ act, through the cooperation of County Service Officer Jack Boshoff.

Hageman said the buildings would sell for about $7,500 each.

Enlarged City Plan Announced
The initial step will be taken next week for the proposed consolidation of Susanville and adjacent districts into one enlarged city.

This will be done by publication of a notice of intention to circulate a petition, plus a description of the property in the proposed enlarged city limits, and a statement giving the reasons for the proposed petition. It is to be signed by sponsors outside the city.

It will be filed in the city clerks office within 10 days. Twenty-one days after publication of the notice, the petition may be circulated for signatures in the area and must be signed by at least one-quarter of the qualified voters. The city clerk then checks the petition with registration records, and 10 more days are allowed for securing additional signatures if required. The city council next calls a special election on the subject, giving 50 days’ notice.

A date and place for hearing of protests by property owners also is set. If the majority of votes cast by property owners favor consolidation, the city council passes on approving ordinance.
