Curfew Imposed In Lassen City

Beginning Saturday night Susanville placed a 10 p.m. curfew for all youngsters under 18 years of age. The city council passed the curfew ordinance Monday night at the regular meeting. The ordinance was proposed recently by Floyd A Smith, chief of police, and J. A. Nutting city attorney.
Under its provisions, all youngsters under the age of 18 must be off the streets and other public places between the hours of 10 p.m. and sunrise. Loitering, driving a car at random, or wandering about are specifically prohibited between those hours.
The ordinance provides that the parents of youngsters violating its provisions will be held responsible. They may be charged with a misdemeanor and fined not less than $5 and not more than $100, or given a sentence of not more than 30 days in the county jail, or both.
The ordinance specifically allows for legitimate presence of youngsters under 18 on the streets after 10 p.m., if they are accompanied by an adult responsible for them, or if they are returning directly home from school functions, dances and athletic events.
