Boiling Springs Appear After Quake

Considerable damage was done at Wendel, a small town on the Southern Pacific railroad thirty miles east of here, by the earthquake which shook Susanville and vicinity at eight o’clock Tuesday morning. A mile and one-half north of Wendel boiling springs burst through the earth and for five miles south at intervals there, are many boiling springs now in evidence.
Residents of the Standish district report that the quake was severe in the section.
The water main in Susanville at the corner of Lassen and Mill streets, was broken by the quake and that part of the town was flooded with water yesterday.
The earthquake reported from Susanville was recorded on the seismograph at the university but it came just at a time when Prof J. C. Jones was changing the paper on the quake recoding machine and part of the record was lost.
