Linda Marie Phillips

Linda Marie Phillips was born October 7, 1939 in Susanville, CA. She was the oldest of four children (Linda, Leanna, John, Donald) born to parents Faye and Thomas Garate. Raised on the Garate cattle ranch in Ravendale, CA, she was a lifelong resident of Lassen County until her death on December 25, 2018. Linda married Donald Phillips in 1959 and together they raised 7 children: Steve, Jess, Dona, Donna, Corinna, Cassie and Serena. She was “Mammy” to multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren who all loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don in 1990, and daughter Corinna in 2009. After the death of her husband, Linda dedicated her spare time in life to volunteer work. Her main focus was the Susanville District Library, where she volunteered for almost 25 years. Many other non-profits and organizations also benefited from her time and generosity, such as Lassen Land and Trails, RISE, and Alliance For Smiles. She also took a special interest in foster care and foster care adoption, as four of her own children were adopted. Linda was kind, generous, resolute and calm. She was deeply, deeply loved by all who knew her, but especially by her family. She will forever be missed.

The Phillips’ family would also like to thank Mimi Rena and the local hospice program. Their compassion and care is a great asset to this community and we are very grateful for the support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations please be made to the Lassen Library District in her name.

Why Pre-plan?

Thinking about your own funeral leaves most people feeling a little uneasy, but more adults are finding that pre-planning a funeral offers great emotional and even financial security for them and their families. With pre-planning, families find comfort in knowing that the funeral reflects what their loved one wanted. It also gives them peace of mind to not have to make important decisions at a stressful time. Click here to visit Walton’s Funeral Home

You don't have to contribute to SusanvilleStuff... but we will be incredibly thankful if you do!

SusanvilleStuff is our area's only locally owned news and information source and our commitment is to our friends and neighbors, with the goal of creating the best, all-around, most reliable content, while at the same time highlighting what makes Susanville and Lassen County so incredibly unique.

365 days a year we act as eyes and ears for our neighbors, and the lens that nearly 20,000 people each month see Susanville through. Think of that – when people on the internet around the world see Susanville, they see us on SusanvilleStuff.com.

Someone relocating and looking for a house to buy, a place to work, a retail location for their business, or a place to move their family will type Susanville into a search engine and find SusanvilleStuff at the top of the list. We try and show them the very best Susanville we can.

10,900 people follow us on Facebook. That means each time we post a story 10,900 of you know it instantly. Susanvillestuff averages more than 600,000 page views each month. We are Susanville’s largest influencer across a variety of social media platforms. Everybody knows about SusanvilleStuff and that is awesome!

Why We Need Reader Support

Our independent, local coverage takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. It is also not particularly lucrative. Our primary revenue source, banner advertising on SusanvilleStuff, is simply not enough by itself, and we increasingly need to rely on reader support to pay the bills.

Every dollar our readers contribute goes towards making SusanvilleStuff a stronger voice in the community with better, more comprehensive content. We are committed to never putting up a paywall for our readers, and content on SusanvilleStuff will always be free. These contributions are completely voluntary, and very appreciated.

Thank You! Jeremy and Marshel Couso,
    Publishers, SusanvilleStuff.com

I loved when Linda and her mother, Faye Garate, volunteered for us at the Lassen Library
