LCC Nursing Students Awarded Scholarships Through Banner Lassen Partnership

Five Lassen College nursing students were recently awarded $2,000 scholarships for the 2021-22 academic year, funded through a partnership between Banner Lassen Medical Center and the Lassen College Nursing Program. Isabella Geoia, Jennifer Arevalo, Brook Luna, Jenifer Jensen and Denise Ramsey were selected by a committee of Lassen College faculty.

This committee weighed a variety of criteria including work ethic, student involvement and future goals in selecting their scholars.

“All scholarship recipients are students working toward a uniquely rewarding career in healthcare,” said LCC’s Director of Nursing, Christi Myers. “They come from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences and are well deserving of the support so graciously provided by our industry partner, Banner-Lassen. Banner-Lassen recognizes the acute need for our community to provide extraordinary health care in many disciplines.

The five-year expanded relationship was inked last spring and includes an annual gift of $15,000 by Banner-Lassen that will be distributed in a variety of ways; through support of student entry and success in health science programs to scholarships for five students seeking an education in a health care field at Lassen College.

The partnership also supports growth of Lassen College’s health science programs through scholarships, and program technology advancements, such as the addition of the community’s first ever virtual reality simulation lab. The lab, recently dedicated as the “Banner Health Nursing and Education Center,” allows students the opportunity to learn in high return, low risk scenarios.

“Banner is dedicated to supporting the best training opportunities right here in our community,” said Sandy Dugger, CEO of Banner Lassen Hospital. “Nursing professionals are in great demand and by investing in LCC, we are investing in the future of Lassen County.

“Time and again, Banner-Lassen has demonstrated its commitment to this region and community by offering optimal and accessible healthcare. This partnership solidifies their fidelity in making that commitment,” said Dr. Trevor Albertson, Superintendent and President of Lassen College.
