Last Day to Volunteer for Upcoming Red Cross Disaster Exercise

redcrossWhen evacuations are ordered in Lassen County, the American Red Cross is here to help. On May 14th the crisis management and support organization will be conducting a training exercise here in Susanville to help volunteers become familiar with opening and operating evacuation shelters.

The agency is looking for 60 volunteers to take part in the important training.

“We need you to put on your acting hat and come to the shelter to be our client for about 2-3 hours,” said Lassen County Red Cross Disaster Captain Sophia Wages. “At the shelter you will go through our registration process and will be asked to present a common scenario to the shelter staff to see how they respond.”

Light refreshments will be provided and participants will be given a small gift as a token of appreciation.

To sign up for the training exercise you can call the local Red Cross message line at 530 638 – 3870. To be a part of the event you must sign up before the end of today, May 9th.

Further instructions will be sent to you by email after you have registered with the Red Cross.
