Lassen Union High School: Message from the Principal

Lassen High Principal Robbin Pedrett welcomed students and parents to Back to School Night on Tuesday with warm words and a look at what makes the school so successful.

In a recent letter addressed to parents Pedrett explained that as the public high school in this area Lassen has a responsibility to help each student get ready for the outside world. That means providing opportunities in a lot of different areas.

“We are ready,” said Pedrett, “Are you ready for us? Let me share. . .”

The Lassen Principal described the wide variety of offerings on the campus, from a complete college prep program and Advanced Placement classes, foreign language, to art and music.

“We also offer an extensive career and technical program through our auto shop classes, wood and construction tech and our agriculture mechanics classes.”

“We have opportunities to choose culinary, business or computer graphics classes for students who excel in these areas. Students can choose to attend college classes and receive credit for college and high school at the same time through our partnership with local community colleges. Some students choose to go into the military or go right to work after high school and our vocational classes offer students an opportunity to prepare for the workplace.”

“What Lassen offers most of all is the opportunity to be included,” said Pedrett, “Students often choose to become involved in our athletic program as we have a variety of sports here for both boys and girls. We have a full music program including guitar and choir. We have a cheerleading squad and a drill team that includes opportunities to perform for athletic events.”

“We are also extremely proud of our Agriculture classes and our Future Farmers of America program. Our students compete in ag art, ag floral design, market and breeding animals and learn how to prepare for these contests in our agriculture department classes.  FFA students compete at the regional and state level in contests through the FFA program that gives those students an opportunity to advance, but also to meet other students around the state and nation that care and have like values. Leadership training abounds through FFA and truly builds future capacity.”

“Our Future Business Leaders of America also provides students additional training and opportunities to learn, travel and compete with other students who want to be future business leaders.”

Pedrett said that the school works hard to meet the needs of all students and offers academic opportunities for students who need extra time and assistance as they choose their life’s work. Students all have different maturity patterns and Lassen’s faculty works to accommodate a variety of learning styles.

Thats not all though! The Principal points out that Lassen offers opportunities to socialize with dances, field trips, conferences and assemblies for students to work with and interact with other teenagers.

“Life should be balanced,” explains Pedrett, “and the Grizzlies’ program will create opportunities for students to be learners, leaders, athletes and well rounded people! Come join us!”

“We are proud of who we are and what you can become because of our opportunities at LUHS.”
