Lassen National Forest: What You Need to Know Before Christmas Tree Cutting

It’s time to head to the woods for the annual Christmas tree hunt, but a large part of the Lassen National Forest has burned in the Hog, Sheep and Dixie Fires and your favorite cutting areas may no longer be available. LNF is asking tree-cutters to check their preferred cutting area before purchasing a permit as all sales are final and refunds will not be issued. Parts of the Forest are still under Closure Orders.

You can find the closure maps on the Lassen National Forest website.

Tree permits are not being sold by mail this year. Instead, the Eagle Lake Ranger District office in Susanville will be open from 10:00a.m. until 2:00p.m. on November 26th, December 3rd and December 10th for permit sales.

Permits are $10 each, either cash or a check made payable to the USDA National Forest. There is a limit of two per household.

While supplies last permits are also available at Susanville Supermarket IGA in Susanville, Chester Chevron Food Mart and Ayoob’s Intermountain Hardware in Chester.
